Fit to Print: the Net Neutrality Debate

I was interested to see the net neutrality issue at the top of Sonoma State University's annual list of most censored stories.

"Net Neutrality" has been the buzzword inside the beltway for the last six months, and Common Cause has done campaigning in districts all over the country to raise the profile of the issue.  Local print press has been responsive and industry press has been very attentive, but it's true we haven't seen a lot on the issue in the mainstream press.

We are still analyzing what the new Congress will mean for important telecom issues and the future actually looks somewhat promising.  Thanks to all of you for playing defense this year and actually stopping the Telecom bill in the Senate by insisting the net neutrality be a part of the package....something the big telecom companies could not accept.  And let's see if we can't engage the mainstream media in the conversation!

Net neutrality has widespread support.  Organizations ranging from MoveOn.org and Consumers Union, to the Christian Coalition and the Gun Owners of America, to the American Library Association and Common Cause have all endorsed net neutrality.  Hundreds of thousands of Americans have also petitioned Congress to keep the Internet free and open. Keep up the good work, guys!
